10min The Chelsea fans reminding the hosts that they are the 'Champions of Europe'. Success this season will come in the Europa League instead, where they beat Sparta Prague in the week to set up a last 16 tie with Steaua Bucharest.
7min Half-volley for Coloccini as Newcastle create their first opportunity of the game. It bounces well wide of Artur Boruc's goal though.
Opta inform us that Southampton have not won this season in the three games in which Schneiderlin has scored (drawn 2 lost 1).
6min First foray forward for Chelsea, who are wearing their black alternative kit today, as Demba Ba wins a corner. It's cleared by the first man, however, in that most infuriating of football things.
4min Forward run by Aguero, driving left to right across the edge of the Chelsea box. Mikel gets a toe to the ball and Cech boots it clear. The home side have made all the running in the opening stages.
GOAL! Newcastle 0 Southampton 1 (Morgan Schneiderlin)
Jack Cork played a long ball over the top of the home defence, Rickie Lambert knocked it down and Schneiderlin was on hand to half-volley past Rob Elliot. The Frenchman ruining French Day for Newcastle!
1min First chance at Man City and a low shot from Yaya Toure which lacks power and is easily stopped by Petr Cech.
KICK-OFF! Blue Moon playing over the tannoy at the Etihad as we get underway. Meanwhile, Newcastle get us started in the other game.
1.27pm The teams are already out at St James' and they are just emerging from the tunnel now at the Etihad.
1.20pm Ten minutes until kick-off at the Etihad and St James'.
Some great stats from Opta on today's games:
30 of Newcastle's 34 Premier League goals this season have been scored by French speakers.
Frank Lampard has scored 11 goals in his 13 Premier League starts for Chelsea this season.
Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin is the only PL player to have made more than 100 tackles this season (102).
If Manchester City (14.5 per cent) had matches Man United's chance conversion (20.5 per cent), they would have scored an extra 22 goals.
1.14pm It seems a long time ago now, but the reverse of this fixture at Stamford Bridge on November 25 was Benitez's first in charge of Chelsea.
He was jeered loudly when introduced to the crowd and a goalless draw didn't help their mood.
Since then, his record reads: Played 25 Won 13 Drawn 7 Lost 5 Scored 52 Conceded 24.
Speaking before the game, the Spaniard said his decision to rest Terry, Oscar and Torres was to 'manage his squad' seeing as Chelsea are currently playing every three or four days.
1.07pm Speaking on Sky Sports, Mancini believes that Chelsea have 'fantastic' players and City will have to be on top of their game to win.
Interesting in his selection of Jack Rodwell in the midfield today, his first Premier League start since September 1. And I think everyone expected to see two strikers out there given that City can't afford to drop any points this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Chelsea captain Frank Lampard will be going in search of his 200th club goal today. He reached 199 a week ago in the 4-0 FA Cup replay win over Brentford as he closes in on Bobby Tambling's overall record.
Sign here: Roberto Mancini signs autographs for fans before kick-off
12.55pm The gap between United and City may now be 15 points following the former's 2-0 win at Queens Park Rangers yesterday, but Roberto Mancini has claimed it's down to luck!
While Roberto is still looking upwards, he might be advised to glance over his shoulder too, as Rafa Benitez claims Chelsea can steal second place off them.
12.50pm To start the countdown to kick-off, here's a bit of required reading from our website this morning.
Chelsea are reportedly considering a surprise swoop for Everton left-back Leighton Baines, commonly regarded as the best in the Premier League in that position.
And in the build-up to the match at the Etihad, in which Chelsea will hope to move to within a single point of City, the Mail on Sunday carried a frank interview with Eden Hazard, who just wants to make the headlines for the right reasons following THAT ball boy incident.
12.40pm We start as usual with the four team line-ups for the Premier League matches:
Alan Pardew has made seven changes from the side that triumphed in Kharkiv on Thursday night to reach the last 16 of the Europa League. Krul, Marveaux and goalscorer Ameobi all miss out today.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino makes two changes from the side that beat Man City 3-1 a fortnight ago, restoring Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw to the starting XI.
Newcastle United: Elliot; Debuchy, Coloccini, S Taylor, Santon; Tiote, Cabaye; Gouffran, Sissoko, Gutierrez; Cisse
Southampton: Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Cork, S. Davis, Rodriguez, Lallana, Lambert
Southampton: Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Cork, S. Davis, Rodriguez, Lallana, Lambert
Oooh la la! Newcastle United fans get in the spirit of French Day at St James' Park in honour of their Gallic contingent
Roberto Mancini has omitted Carlos Tevez and plays Sergio Aguero as a lone striker with five in midfield, including Jack Rodwell.
For Chelsea, Rafa Benitez has dropped Fernando Torres to the bench and favoured Demba Ba up front.
Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, K Toure, Nastasic, Clichy, Garcia, Milner, Rodwell, Silva, Y Toure, Aguero
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Luiz, Cole, Mikel, Lampard, Ramires, Mata, Hazard, Ba

12.30pm Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Sportsmail's live coverage of this afternoon's Barclays Premier League and Capital One Cup final action.
There are two league matches as a first course and then a Wembley Cup final straight out of a football fairytale as Swansea City take on League Two Bradford City for the first major silverware of the season.
First up though, two important 1.30pm kick-offs with an impact at both ends of the table. At the Etihad, Manchester City will take on Chelsea attempting to keep the title race alive after Man United extended their lead to 15 points with a win at QPR yesterday.
Meanwhile, at St James' Park, Newcastle host Southampton in a game with big implications for the relegation battle.
